About

I arrived in China in 1995. I learned the language. I walked Yunnan. I watched the country change with my own eyes — not only through someone else’s headline.

I have lived in Hong Kong since 2009. In 2019 I was on the street with neighbors at dawn, helping put the city back together after the night. That stayed with me. It is hard to forget what you have seen up close.

I look at how power actually works: countries keeping their footing, money moving behind the news, and a world that is no longer run from one center. China, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, BRICS — I try to treat them as real places and real people, not slogans.

I am not here to recycle talking points. I stayed long enough to notice the pattern. The work is simple. Understand first. Then share it, calmly.

The work

Mainstream coverage starts in a newsroom. I start on the pavement.

Caracas when the shops are open.
Tehran after the cameras have a version.
Hong Kong after rain, when people are just going to work.

The story is usually smaller and more serious than the headline: inflation, fuel, a job, whether the country still belongs to itself.

Multipolarity

The world is no longer run from one capital. China, Russia, BRICS, West Asia, Latin America — I write the shift as a structure, not a mood.

Sovereignty

A country that still decides for itself is treated as a problem. I write about those that refuse to be managed from outside, and what that costs ordinary people.

China, from inside

I arrived in 1995. I have lived in Hong Kong since 2009. This is not a fly-in opinion. It is thirty years of watching the place work.

What I make

Long-form analysis on YouTube. Essays on Substack. Notes from Caracas, Tehran, Hong Kong, and elsewhere.

Where else it appears

Commentary for Sputnik, China Daily, and CGTN. Conversations with people who still look at the map, then talk it through.
